Rules

We have a number of rules, which are designed to make things safer for everyone. Your co-operation is very much appreciated.

Above & Below (UK) Ltd, operating Blue Lagoon Diving & Leisure, cannot be held responsible for an individual’s own actions which result in them taking unnecessary risks beyond their own capabilities. Common sense, self preservation and care are essential.
  • All visitors to Blue Lagoon Diving & Leisure must register on arrival at the site and in
doing so agree to the rules detailed in this document and the emergency procedures provided at that time.
  • Divers using the facilities at Blue Lagoon do so at their own risk. Above & Below (UK) Ltd accepts no responsibility for accidents whilst diving or for any loss of possessions within the grounds. Furthermore, vehicles are left entirely at their owners’ risk and Above & Below (UK) Ltd will accept no responsibility for the safety of said vehicles or any valuables therein which may be lost, damaged or stolen.
  • All divers must follow safe diving practices as laid down by their governing body, ie. BSAC/PADI/SAA/NAUI, etc. All divers must be medically fit for diving and are responsible for the serviceability of their own equipment.
  • All divers must dive with another buddy, and if separated must ascend. Solo diving is strictly forbidden.
  • Swimming is not allowed.
  • Please do not shout or blow whistles unless there is an emergency.
  • Please adhere to the maximum vehicle speed limit of five miles per hour.
  • Gravelled walkways have been built for your convenience, please keep off the grass and garden areas where possible.
  • Please dispose of all litter in the bins provided, or better still, take your rubbish home
    with you.
  • There is no public access to the far side of the lake, ie, no access past the island or the electricity pylon.
  • The underwater wrecks and artefacts are there for all to enjoy. Please do not damage them. Anyone observed damaging the artefacts will be immediately banned from the site. Divers are not to penetrate the wrecks for safety reasons.
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult AT ALL TIMES and should not be left to their own devices. For the safety of all, children should not play on the rocky waters edge or on any of the structures around the site. Throwing stones or gravel into the water or on the car park is forbidden. Above & Below (UK) Ltd accepts no responsibility for accidents caused as a result of disregarding these instructions.
  • No dogs are allowed on the site.
  • In the interest of safety for all, no open fires are allowed on site. The use of any form of machinery on the site, eg compressors, generators, etc is also forbidden.
  • Divers using re-breathers are to ascend under surface marker buoys. Underwater scooters (DPV) are permitted only by prior arrangement.
  • The minimum age for diving at Blue Lagoon is 12 years old. Junior divers must be closely supervised by competent adults.
  • All diving schools, instructors and other divers using the facilities at Blue Lagoon in an ‘at work’ situation should operate within the requirements of the Diving at Work Regulations 1997 and familiarise themselves with the relevant legislation.
  • When diving in limited visibility including night diving, all divers must carry a primary and secondary torch and a strobe or equivalent.
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

FIRE

In the event of a fire a loud alarm should sound. On hearing this alarm, you should leave the building by the nearest exit and assemble at the fire assembly point, next to the main site entrance.

If you are in a group, please check that you know where everyone is and if someone cannot be accounted for, inform the closest member of staff immediately. Do not re-enter the building until a member of staff has given the ‘all clear’

If you see a fire and the alarm has not sounded, do not attempt to put it out, sound the alarm if there is an alarm point in view and inform the closest member of staff as quickly as possible.

If you do not see an alarm point, inform a member of staff quickly and then leave the building.

IN WATER EMERGENCIES

In the event that you see a diver in difficulties or hear someone call for help, you should raise the alarm by either blowing a whistle or shouting. A member of staff will then respond as quickly as possible.

There is a rib for remote rescues, which can only be used by Blue Lagoon staff. Please do not attempt to use the boat yourself.

MEDICAL EMERGENCY

We will have at least one member of staff on site at all times who is medically trained and will be able to help with most problems. If emergency evacuation to a hospital is deemed necessary we will coordinate the arrangements.

If you have any problems or concerns whilst on site, please contact a member of staff and we will do our best to help you.

POSSIBLE SITE HAZARDS

Various areas are covered with loose gravel and are an uneven surface. Visitors using the site are advised to wear sensible footwear and to take care when walking around. As the surfaces are uneven you should not run anywhere on site.

Most surfaces, when wet may become slippery, especially in winter time when it may be icy. This includes railway sleepers and edging, grass and stoned areas. Please take care.

The water is, at times, cold and also deep.

You are responsible for your own assessment of conditions and potential risks whilst diving.
