Blue Lagoon Diving & Leisure is Yorkshire’s newest recreational diving facility.
Called ‘Blue Lagoon’ by the locals because of its stunning blue colour, its official name is Spring Lodge Lake. A flooded limestone quarry, it has
been left to it’s own devices for over 10 years,
with very little in the way of landscaping or major works, this has meant that the site boasts approximately 32 acres of woodland, meadow, scrubland and of course aquatic areas with a plethora of wildlife. This is very important to us,
and any construction or improvements are carried out with consideration to maintaining the ecological soundness of the site. So much so, that an area of the lake has been set aside for the wildlife with no public access.
Why bother with the ecological side of the site? Surely we have enough to do and think about with the diving operation?
Although Spring Lodge Lake is a relatively new area in terms of woodland and wildlife, it does have plenty to boast, as our wildlife pages will show, but ancient woodland has formed part of our landscape since the Ice Age. Sadly, it now covers less than 2% of the UK. What little remains is threatened with airport expansions, new roads and leisure facilities – and could be lost forever. So, how will our site become one of the few ‘ancient woodlands’ of the future if we don’t look after it?.
We also have an obligation to care for our most precious animals – like the dormouse, red squirrel, and bullfinch which are in danger of disappearing forever. Their homes – the unique environment they depend upon for survival must be supported and protected.
For divers, we offer toilets, changing facilities, a shop and café where you can refuel after a dive with very reasonably priced hot and cold food.
The lake has a maximum depth of 11 metres, and we currently have training platforms, 2 boat wrecks, a howitzer field gun, sabre light tank and a hawker hunter jet plane in addition to the possible sighting of some of our aquatic friends such as sterlets, roach, tench, carp, newts, frogs, toads and the new addition of sturgeon.

Our on-site compressor can offer air up to 300 bar. Cylinders of air in 7ltr, 10ltr, 12ltr, or 15ltr sizes can also be hired from us by prior arrangement.
A walk around the lake is a great way to relax and enjoy British nature at it's best you. Or you could hire one of our kayaks - another great way to enjoy Blue Lagoon whilst waiting for friends / relatives to return from their dive, or to spend your surface interval. Of course the cafe with homemade soup is a great way to keep warm in the winter
too.
Instructors, clubs and dive centre operations are welcome at Blue Lagoon, and platforms have been situated in close proximity to designated entry points for skill practice, however anyone operating in a working capacity must follow the HSE guidelines and regulations.
All visitors must park in the designated car park and not on the access roadways or by the waters edge. We also require that you report to reception and book in on each visit. We operate an annual registration fee of £5, for which a personal identity card will be issued which you should produce on all subsequent visits. Our daily fee is £5 per person and £5 per car. Operating this way means that you save money by car sharing, and we all help the environment by reducing traffic – lets face it, you have to dive with a buddy, so why not drive with one!
